Five Reasons to Join the GFWC Hudson Junior Woman's Club
1. Get involved in your community:
The primary goal of the
GFWC Hudson Junior Woman's Club is to promote
volunteer activities that directly benefit the community.
Club projects support the library, schools, soup kitchen,
police department, parks, women's shelters and other
community programs. In the past, club members established
the beach at Robinson Pond, donated a bookmobile to
the library and painted the community center. Current
projects include helping with after school projects
at the middle school, planting flower barrels around
town, distributing domestic violence awareness information,
and providing low-cost pet vaccinations at our annual
rabies clinic. These are just a few examples of projects
the club does to benefit the local community.
2. Expand your horizons:
While many volunteer organizations have a single focus,
GFWC clubs volunteer on a wide range of projects and
programs. We have six departments (Arts, Conservation,
Education, Home Life, International Affairs, and Public
Affairs) as well as special projects such as Domestic
Violence Awareness, Advocates for Children, and the
Women's History and Resource Center. Many members join
the club with a particular interest or experience in
one of these areas, but soon find themselves involved
in a variety of different community projects. Through
club meetings and speakers, members learn about important
programs in the community, around the state and in the
rest of the world.
3. Be informed and inspired:
You'll learn new things and meet some amazing people
through the
GFWC Hudson Junior
Woman's Club! Monthly meetings often feature
guest speakers. Recent topics have included naturopathic
medicine, gardening with day lilies, the needs of a
local shelter, natural pet products, and financial planning.
We've also held special programs for the public on home
organization, computer safety, and women's health. In
addition, the club holds monthly 'craft nights' where
members socialize and learn new crafts, such as knitting,
one-stroke painting, jewelry-making or planting a kitchen
herb garden.
4. Share your expertise and
gain leadership experience:
Everyone has talents. Come share yours with our club!
The club offers a supportive environment for sharing
your ideas and gaining leadership experience. Many of
our members never imagined themselves as leaders, but
have gone on to hold offices in the state and international
GFWC. Several members have used their leadership experience
in our club to gain new employment or advance in their
jobs. It looks great on a resume!
5. Meet people and make new
friends:
Whether you're new to the community or have lived here
for many years, the
GFWC Hudson Junior Woman's Club is a great
way to meet new people. Our members are friendly and
have a variety of interests. Our monthly meetings include
time for socializing and we do other social activities
throughout the year. As part of the GFWC, a worldwide
organization of women, club members may also get to
know other GFWC members from throughout NH and elsewhere.
